Want To Remove The Carpet In Your Home? Here Are Some Quick Tips
Tired Of That Old Carpet Inside Of Your Home?
Carpet in an old home can be a total eyesore.
Old stains and dust can really age a room, if you aren’t happy with the look, then you should consider removing it. The value of your home can be improved as well as the look itself by updating the flooring. Here are a few things that you should think about before you start.
So what should you do with your old carpet?
Recycling it is an eco-friendly option, which will cost you some money. If it’s in good condition, you can choose to donate it. Or you could save sections of it for household use, like cat’s scratching posts, matts for outside of your home, or even a soft cushion while you work in your garage. The choice is yours.
Start by gathering all your tools:
- Pliers
- Utility knife
- Duct tape
- Gloves
- Hammer
- Crowbar
- Dust mask
- Knee pads
- Vacuum
- Old beach towel
Removing your carpet yourself lets you inspect the subfloor for damage and squeaks. Once your flooring is put back in these problems won’t be fixable. Vacuum the carpet to minimize any dust and debris when removing the carpet.
Start from the corner of the room, and roll as you go
Try using your pliers to pull up one of the corners, if this can’t be done cut a 6 by 6 strip with your utility knife. Once the carpet is ready to be lifted up pull it away from the rest of your walls. If you don’t plan on saving the carpet you can just cut it and do it all by sections to make things easier. Under it you will find a pad used for cushion. If you like you can remove that pad the same way and replace it with a new one if it’s moldy or smells funny.
With these tips you should have no problem taking out that old carpet inside of your home. Good luck on bringing more value to your home. Comment if you have any other tips on removing carpet in your home.
