For people who have never been here and see a photo of this dam, they’d be very surprised that the Cleveland Dam is located in North Vancouver at the head of the Capilano River. Sometimes we can take our water out here for granted and don’t realize that 40% of the Lower Mainland’s drinking water comes from this dam. The dam was named after Ernest Cleveland who was the first chief commissioner of the Vancouver Water District and was completed in 1954.
